Safety for Young Artists
All activities in our packs should be carried out under appropriate adult supervision.
Please read and follow all manufacturers' safety instructions before using any art materials or tools.
Always choose art materials that are age-appropriate and suitable for your child. Children develop at different rates, so adults should use their judgement when selecting activities and resources.
Stop using any damaged or broken equipment immediately.

Use only washable, water-based, non-toxic paints intended for children's use. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and avoid art materials that require solvents or specialist ventilation.

Always use age-appropriate scissors, cutting tools and glue.
Young children should use child-safe scissors under direct adult supervision. Encourage children to remain seated while cutting and to carry scissors with blades closed and pointing downwards.
Children should be supervised when using glue, especially hot glue guns.

Many loose parts used in art activities (for example beads, buttons, pom poms, googly eyes, sequins and small collage materials) present a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 36 months. Keep small items out of reach of babies and young children and supervise closely at all times.

Check natural materials (twigs, stones, plants...) carefully for sharp edges, thorns, mould, insects or signs of decay before use. Avoid collecting plants or berries that may be toxic.

Check ingredients and packaging for allergy information before use. Some children may have sensitivities to particular materials including latex, adhesives, food products or natural materials.

Protect clothing and surfaces with aprons, old clothing or coverings. Ensure activities take place in a well-lit, well-ventilated area.
